In an ongoing case, Attorneys Daniel and Erin Reisman are representing a man in a workplace harassment and discrimination lawsuit. Our client, who is a black man, claims to have found a dummy
of his likeness hanging from a noose at his place of employment. Attorneys Reisman assisted our client in filing the lawsuit last week with the San Bernardino County Superior Court.
According to the public details of the lawsuit, our client Michael J. suffered racially motivated harassment at the United Furniture Industries factory where he worked. On July 17, the harassment reached a new low when our client found the dummy hanging over his workstation.
Our Client Reported the Issue
As alleged in the complaint, Immediately after finding the dummy, Michael reported the incident to his supervisor. However, his supervisors brushed off the act as a joke, and the man who claimed responsibility for the dummy was never disciplined. No action was taken to remove Michael from the hostile work environment or help improve conditions.
Following his initial complaint about the dummy, Michael’s coworkers reportedly made “nasty comments” to him and looked at him with “hostile glares.” To protect himself from this unwarranted treatment, he again complained to his supervisors, but to no avail.

The discrimination and harassment grew to a level where Michael was afraid he might possibly be attacked by his coworkers. The complaint our firm filed on his behalf with the court states that Michael was forced to quit “given the awful nature of the harassment and his superiors’ refusal to act…”
