Internet Reacts to Florida Divorce Selfie

On Behalf of | Jan 11, 2015 | Firm News

Two Florida residents celebrated the finalization of their divorce in a nontraditional way — with a “selfie.” Keith Hinston and Michelle Knight decided to get a divorce after three years of marriage. They took a photo of themselves and posted it on the social media site Instagram with this caption: “We are officially un-married. Here’s to the most friendly, respectful and loving split imaginable. We smile not because it’s over, but because it happened.”

According to the parties, they decided to take this action so their friends and family members wouldn’t feel awkward around them after the divorce. They plan to remain friends and to continue to see each other periodically to care for their dog.

The best way to approach divorce

To be sure, not all marriages end so peacefully. However, anyone seeking a divorce can make the process easier by approaching the dissolution of marriage with a level head and an appreciation of the other party’s needs and concerns. Instead of going to court, an increasing number of divorcing spouses opt for alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation and arbitration. Such an approach allows you to work through any sticking points in a manner that is friendlier and more cost-effective than litigation.

Despite what many people think, divorce doesn’t have to be an overwhelmingly negative process. If you have questions about divorcing in Florida, speak with a skilled Daytona Beach family law attorney.
